Installation Procedures

  1. The elements, i.e. pipe/fitting, should not be joined if the end of the pipe, before cementing, reaches the bottom of the socket without resistance. Defective elements should be replaced by new elements according to the rules of claim procedure.

  2. Before joining the elements, the edges of pipe ends should be chamfered.

  3. If the solvent-cement has a jellylike consistency or exceeds its expiration date, it must not be used for joining the elements. Only solvent cement, specially designed for joining the elements of PVC-C and PVC-U, recommended by NIBCO Sp. z o.o., should be used. When diluted with any dissolvent, solvent cement irrevocably loses it technical properties.

  4. In two-step joining, before applying solvent cement, a surface preparation agent, called "primer" should be applied

  5. After inserting the pipe to the bottom of the socket, turn the pipe 1/4 turn to spread the solder cement evenly. The joined elements should be kept in place for 15 to 30 seconds to prevent the pipe from moving out of the socket of the fitting. The higher the ambient temperature, the shorter the time required.

  6. Solvent cementing is not recommended at temperatures below 5.C or during rain. Do not expose solvent cement to areas where an open fire is present.

  7. Because of the taper thread, be careful when connecting female adapters with metal male threads. PVC-C female adapters must have 0-rings made of EPDM (an EPDM seal guarantees proper sealing of the joint). PVC-C male adapters may be used if water temperature is not expected to exceed 60.C. Above 60.C transition unions (Cat. No. 4733) must be applied. When connecting to a hot-water tap unit, a drop ear should be used (Cat. No. 4707-356).

  8. Any sources of hot water (boilers, ovens, exchanger distributors) intended to supply PVC-C installations, should be equipped with efficient thermostatic devices at their outflow, that maintain a maximum temperature of 70.C. In emergency situations, the temperature must not exceed 95.C.

  9. The heater manufacturer recommends whether it is possible to use NIBCO PVC-C pipes for utility hot water in their gas and electric flow heaters. The manufacturer also recommends the method of connecting the pipes to the heater (inlet and outlet).

  10. PTFE tape with a thickness of 0.1 mm, or a small quantity of sufficiently combed flax hards, should be used for sealing the thread unions. PTFE paste may be used in connection with these two methods. It is sufficient to tighten up the con-netions manually following the "finger tight" rule. It is allowed to carefully tighten a connection a bit stronger with a wrench, maximally 1.5 to 2 turns (the so-called soft tightening).

  11. Before ordering male or female adapters and flanges for installations in diameters that exceed 2", please contact NIBCO Product Department in Lodz

  12. Self compensation is possible if we get advantage of construction conditions, i.e. set-offs, bends. It is recommended to compensate thermal expansion of the installation riser at passage through floors.

  13. If an offset is required, a single one offered by NIBCO should be applied.

  14. In floor and wall passages, the PVC-C or PVC-U pipes should be run through protecting tubes. Metal sleeves are not allowed.

  15. PVC-C and PVC-U pipes are not suitable for gas and compressed air installations.

  16. Pressure tests of PVC-C and PVC-U installations may be used only with water as the filling medium.

  17. A pressure test may be conducted after 2 hours from the cementing of the last joint. It is recommended that the installation be put in full performance operation not earlier than after 12 hours from the moment of making the last joint.

  18. Any application of hangers with elastic inserts other than those offered by NIBCO should be agreed upon with the Product Department.

  19. Prevent water in PVC-C and PVC-U pipes from freezing
