Assembly of Pex-Al-Pex

Pipe cutting: The pipe must be cut perpendicularly to the main axis, by means of shears or wheel pipe cutters. Cutting must be done carefully in order not to deform the pipe’s internal area.

Calibration and bevelling: After cutting, the pipe has to be calibrated with a suitable device and bevelled using a burring reamer. Next, all fouling and material chips must be removed from the pipe.

Screw fittings assembly

Put a nut and clamping ring onto the pipe. Calibrate and bevel its end. Drive the pipe with the nut and ring home onto the union end and tighten the nut on the union using a suitable wrench.

Press fittings assembly

Put the clamping ring onto the pipe, calibrate and bevel the end. Insert the pipe with the ring onto the end of the union. To mould-insert the union properly use a clamping device (manual or electric) and the U-type clamp.

In order to make a proper connection the clamping device or its clamps should adhere to the PE clamping ring.

Bending: The Pex-Al-Pex pipes are extremely flexible and maybe shaped manually. However, it is advisable to use bending-springs for this purpose. Ensure that the all bends are greater than the minimum bend radius.

The connection between the Pex-Al-Pex pipe and clamping or threaded unions enables long-lasting and failure-free operation of the system, as guaranteed by the producer.

General assembly guidelines

  • Assembly should be done at temperatures over 0ºC.
  • Do not place threaded connections directly in concrete ceilings (they are intended as temporary fastening solutions).
  • Clamped connections can be placed in concrete (they are deemed to be permanent fastening solutions).
  • For outdoor or wrapped connections one has to account for thermal expansion of the pipes.
  • Use properly arranged slide or fixed bearings.
  • A leak test should be carried out prior to any brickwork finishing operation (applying mortar or plaster).
